Automatic gearboxes are fitted with a transmission control unit (TCU), this unit controls the operation of the gearbox in the same vein that your vehicle’s ECU controls the operation of it’s engine, our gearbox software has been developed to compliment our performance remapping packages, by adjusting the TCU’s software we’re able to optimise the performance of the gearbox in various ways.
GEARBOX TUNING FEATURES
It’s important to note that not every gearbox needs to be remapped and in practice, it’s just not possible for us to remap every gearbox from every manufacturer. In most cases if your vehicle hasn’t been modified and you’re only considering a basic performance or economy remap, gearbox software will likely be unnecessary, if however you have a highly tuned performance vehicle that’s running considerably high torque figures, gearbox software may be required.

Performance remapping certain vehicles involves increasing the RPM limit but this has to be configured in both the ECU and the TCU, this is achieved with our gearbox software.
TCU’s have torque limits written into their software, when the the ECU is remapped on certain high performance vehicles, these torque limits can restrict the performance of the engine, by raising these limits we can unleash the vehicle’s full performance in a safe manner.
Clutch slip can be an challenge on high performance vehicles once they’ve been remapped (the Mk7 Golf R is a prime example), increasing the clutch clamping force prevents this issue from occurring and protects the clutche pack.
If you’re driving in manual mode, kick down can be an annoyance, where applicable we can disable the automatic kick down function giving you more control over the gearbox.
Our software is able to increase the shift speed of certain gearboxes by up to 20%, this allows quicker and smoother acceleration.
Auto upshift in manual mode can be quite unsettling, if you’re entering a corner at speed, the last thing you want is the gearbox to change up a gear if you hit the engine redline.
